Farewell to Skalleague Mark Alexander who passed away today

Hard-working Skalleague Mark Alexander passed away this morning, announced Skal International President Susanna Saari.

The Skal and travel and tourism community is deeply saddened to hear of Markโ€™s untimely death. He is described as a shining light and dedicated member of Skal.

โ€œI cannot express the pain I feel. It was an honor to have known such a great person, and we will all miss him terribly, and [he] will always be remembered,โ€ Saari said.

โ€œIn this tough time, may our friendship, sympathy, and heartfelt condolences bring comfort to Mark’s family,โ€ she added.

Mark was a Director for Skalโ€™s Executive Committee and a member from Northern Island and the International Counselor for the UK. Skal International is a global organization for travel and tourism professionals with 15,000 members in 85 countries, and it covers all sectors in the travel and tourism industries. The Executive Committee comprises 6 Directors who oversee the organization which is administered by a CEO and secretariat based in Torremolinos in Spain.

As International Councillor for the UK since 2015, Mark represented all UK Skal members on the international platform meeting with other Councillors from around the world twice a year to network and progress the organization of Skal, the largest Travel and Tourism organization representing every sector of the industry.

Mark ran his own business โ€“ M.A. Consulting โ€“ in the UK for the past 17 years. With extensive experience of over 15 years in the hotel industry and 10 years in destination marketing, he provided a wide range of services to the tourism, hotel, leisure, and hospitality industry. Marketing strategies, business plans, developing sales and marketing teams, mystery shopping services, mentoring, applications for grant assistance, were just some of the services he offered.

Prior to this, Mark was the Owner/Director of Arena Health & Fitness located in Cityside Retail & Leisure Park Belfast from 2004-2012, and he was the Deputy Chief Executive for the Northern Ireland Tourist Board from 1996-2000. He also served as Executive Director for Conference Nottingham from 1991-1996 and was the General Manager for Stakis Hotels for 9 years from 1982-1991. He received his education from the University of Portsmouth.

Breeta Geary, Supervisor for Community Employment Scheme & HR Officer at the Western Care Association, said in a comment posted on LinkedIn, โ€œA more genuine, honest person you would find hard to meet.โ€

Details of the funeral service have not been made public as of the writing of this announcement.
