It was announced from the office of Seychelles founding President Sir James Mancham that he has accepted to speak and be a panelist at the First Annual Employment Pathway Innovation Conference 2015 that will take place in New York City from September 21-22.

The conference is intended to serve as a unique forum for innovative minds to address how technology can solve the educational and workforce challenge of our time. Following a working dinner on the night of September 21, the conference will be convened the next day at the New York Institute of Technology Auditorium on Broadway, with a number of keynote addresses, panel discussions, networking events and other interaction that will stimulate critical conversation between elite minds.

Among those confirmed as keynote speakers and panelists for the event, besides Sir James are top leaders such as Bill Bennett – former United States Secretary of Education; General George W. Casey Jr. – former Chief of Staff of US Army (Retired); Jose Figuerres – former President of Costa Rica; Vicente Fox – former President of Mexico; Carlos Gutierrez – former US Secretary of Commerce and former CEO of Kellogg’s; Pat McCrory – Governor of North Carolina; Duncan Niederauer – former CEO of New York Stock Exchange and Eric Spiegel – CEO of Siemens, USA.

This important event is being promoted by Viridis Learning, an organization founded by Felix W. Ortiz III, dedicated to helping students identify and pursue specific, lifelong career pathways and provide them with the educational and certification resources to follow them.

In a statement issued from his office this morning, Sir James said, “The future of education will be a crucial determinant of the future of today’s youth. At a time when information is growing by lips and bounds, jobs for youth are scarce and the world economy is increasingly unpredictable. It is therefore necessary to examine the basic premises on which the current system of higher education is based and ask ourselves whether and how we can do better. As humanity confronts challenges of unprecedented scope, magnitude and intensity, we need to improve our education so that it equipped our youth with the capacities necessary to prevent, anticipate and solve problems and create opportunities. A new paradigm in education, appropriate for the needs of the 21st century is needed,” Sir James said.
