After a roof collapsed at the Jet Set discotheque in the capital of Santo Domingo nightclub in Dominican Republican, 44 people have been found in the rubble and pronounced dead.

Included in those who have perished is Major Leage Baseball pitcher Octavio Dotel, age 51, who was found still alive but died on the way to the hospital, and Nelsy Cruz, governor of Monte Cristi province, the sister of former baseball player Nelson Cruz, a seven-time Major League Baseball All-Star.

At least 44 people have died after the roof collapsed at the nightclub during a concert by merengue singer Rubby Pérez.

Pérez’s manager Fernando Soto said the singer was found alive but he did not know whether he had been transferred to hospital. Perez’ daughter confirmed her father was one of those trapped in the rubble.
