Deepak Joshi served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Tourism Board, the (National Tourism Organization of Nepal) from December 2016 – December 2019. Five years later he was elected to serve as the NTB CEO again competing against former CEO Dhanjaya Regmi and Gyaneshwar Mahoto in the race.
The post of CEO in the Nepal Tourism Board has been open since the COVID-19 pandemic and is seen as urgently needed to continue rebuilding this vital industry for the Himalayan country.
During his 25 years of work experience in destination management, tourism promotion, and Public-Private Partnership, Mr. Joshi has worked with many levels of tourism professionals in Nepal and also has a good network with top international partners.
Mr. Joshi’s contribution to the tourism recovery of Nepal post-2015 earthquake was highly noted. Mr. Joshi then successfully led the Tourism Recovery Committee (TRC) Nepal Secretariat in coordination with the private and public sectors.
He has also served at the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) being on the Executive Board and Chairperson for the Destination Committee-PATA.
Mr. Joshi has been awarded the highest IIPT Champions in Challenge Award 2018 from the “International Institute for Peace Through Travel and Tourism” at the ITCMS (International Travel Crisis Management Summit) in London, UK. And, he was also awarded as the best CEO in Asia in the national tourism board category.
During COVID he was instrumental in building the global rebuilding travel network and the launch of the World Tourism Network. He participated in hundreds of Zoom discussions with tourism leaders around the world through this WTN initiative.
An avid reader and writer, Mr. Joshi has written on tourism for select issues of national broadsheets, contributed to the book “Readings in Rural Tourism” and has presented papers on tourism with original ideas at seminars and workshops in Nepal and abroad.
He has worked closely with international tourism organizations like WTN, PATA, UNWTO, SKAL, UIAA, UFTA, ATTA, GTRCMC. Mr. Joshi holds his education degree in Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) and Master in Sociology from the Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal. He has taken international courses on project development, destination management, and marketing.
Mr. Joshi is known for his quick wit, good humor, dedication in the development sector, and genuine nature among his colleagues and working partners.
In 2014 he was designated one of the first tourism heroes by the World Tourism Network. This prestigious recognition of “Tourism Heroes” perfectly matches Mr. Joshi and was a motivational reward to one of the most honest, dedicated, and committed personalities for tourism in Nepal, driven by his passion for uplifting and promoting sustainable development of tourism through his dedicated efforts and responsible advocacy roles. Working tirelessly at different layers of services, more importantly with many volunteering roles and contributions for the betterment of tourism.
