China’s domestic passenger transport will see ongoing growth in the latter part of the year, while international passenger transport will experience a continued recovery.

Civil aviation industry in China saw a significant increase in passenger trips during the first half of this year, with nearly 350 million trips recorded, marking a 23.5 percent surge compared to the previous year, according to the latest data released by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

Domestic routes accounted for 320 million of the total trips, showing a 16.4 percent year-on-year growth, while international routes saw a remarkable increase with over 29.67 million trips, representing a 254.4 percent surge compared to the same period last year.

In the beginning of this month, the immigration authority of China reported an increase in the number of visits made by foreign tourists in the first six months of the year, as a result of measures implemented since January. These measures, aimed at easing the entry of foreign citizens into China for purposes such as business, education, and tourism, consist of broader visa-free policies, more lenient visa application criteria, and streamlined procedures.

The volume of freight transport in the civil aviation market exceeded 4.17 million tons during the same period, marking a 27.4 percent increase compared to the previous year. Data indicated that freight transport on domestic routes saw a 23.2 percent growth, while international routes experienced a 34.3 percent increase year on year.

According to the vice president of the transport division at the Civil Aviation Administration of China, CAAC has forecasted that domestic passenger transport will see ongoing growth in the latter part of the year, while international passenger transport will experience a continued recovery.

The official added that CAAC expects the primary indicators of the civil aviation transportation industry to reach unprecedented levels this year.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) is the Chinese civil aviation authority under the Ministry of Transport. It oversees civil aviation and investigates aviation accidents and incidents. As the aviation authority responsible for China, it concludes civil aviation agreements with other aviation authorities, including those of the Special administrative regions of China which are categorized as “special domestic.” It directly operated its own airline, China’s aviation monopoly, until 1988. The agency is headquartered in Dongcheng, Beijing.
