A suicide bomb attack on a cafe in Tripoli, Lebanon, on January 10 killed at least seven people and wounded 36 others, the army said.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry said the attack killed seven people. Other officials put the death toll at nine. Three dozen people were wounded.
Lebanon’s National News Agency said it was a double suicide bombing. The governor of northern Lebanon ordered a curfew until 7 a.m. and the army set up a security cordon around the cafe.
The attack is the latest violence in an area repeatedly buffeted by violence linked to the civil war in neighboring Syria.
Tripoli, Lebanon’s second biggest city, has historically been a bastion for Sunni Islamist groups, making it a concern for Lebanese security agencies that have warned of plans by Islamic State and the Nusra Front to destabilize the country.
