Tourism in Zimbabwe is seen as the biggest money earner left in Zimbabwe after the overthrow of the Mugabe regime. In charge of tourism is the Honorable  Minister of Prisca Mupfumira. As of today, this minister is in a Harare jail, arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.

Prisca Mupfumira was in charge as the Minister of Public Service during the Mugabe government and at the time Dr. Walter Mzembi served as the longest-serving Minister of Zimbabwe.

In March of 2018, she told reporters at a news conference during ITB Berlin that Zimbabwe tourism is open for business. Together with her chief of the Zimbabwe tourism office, she told eTN at that time, the country is recovering after Mugabe’s time of corruption. She added Dr. Walter Mzembi, who was the minister in charge of tourism before she was, is a criminal and will go to jail.

According to sources, the Prisca Mupfumira was fired by former president Mugabe after a cabinet reshuffle in 2017 when she was in charge of public affairs.  According to eTN sources, the allegation of corruption was also raised in 2017 but not brought forward before the overturn of the Mugabe government.

Until today the minister was seen as one of the most loyal followers of the current government in Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission has confirmed today that they have picked up Minister of Tourism Prisca Mupfumira over charges relating to the abuse of NSSA funds as pronounced by the Auditor General in her report.

“We can confirm that the Minister of Tourism is currently in our custody for questioning and possible due processes. We cannot respond to any questions at the moment as this is a live process. The press will be informed through a release later in the day. We will keep updating.” ZACC said in a statement.

The Commission assured Zimbabweans that they are working flat out to make sure that the law takes its course.

Member of Parliament of Norton Constituency Temba Mliswa is on record accusing Mupfumira of stealing and misusing NSSA funds to control ZANU-PF officials.
