All Nippon Airways (ANA) has become the first Japanese airline to obtain the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Center of Excellence for Independent Validators in Lithium Batteries (CEIV Lit-batt) certification on December 24, 2024. This demanding certification program highlights ANA‘s dedication to maintaining the highest safety standards and compliance in the transportation of lithium batteries.
As the utilization of lithium batteries in electric vehicles and various industries continues to rise, particularly in Asian markets, the need for secure transportation of these potentially hazardous materials is escalating. ANA has implemented comprehensive lithium battery handling procedures, which encompass staff training, specialized equipment, safety protocols, and quality control measures within its route networks, especially at its international cargo hub located at Narita International Airport. These efforts have successfully met the rigorous certification criteria set forth by IATA, further reinforcing ANA’s commitment to the safe and dependable transport of lithium batteries throughout its network.
