Airbus has entered into a partnership with BAE Systems to supply the energy storage system for Airbus’ microhybridization demonstration initiative aimed at commercial aviation. This collaboration seeks to promote sustainable aviation by advancing and integrating electrification technologies that aim to diminish the carbon footprint of the aviation sector.
BAE Systems will be responsible for the development, testing, and delivery of energy storage packs designed for electric aircraft operating in the megawatt power range, featuring an energy capacity of two hundred kilowatt-hours to improve energy efficiency and overall performance. The energy storage system will assist the engine with electric propulsion during various flight phases.
Under the terms of the agreement, BAE Systems will supply energy storage systems to Airbus for laboratory testing and system integration related to the demonstration of hybridization technology.
