Tourists and residents in the Chinese capital Beijing were ordered today by Chinese authorities to stay inside and not exercise. Beijing has issued an orange alert.
The air in Beijing reached dangerous and unhealthy levels. This is the highest-level smog alert so far this year, and the warning level is second only to ‘red’ in terms of its severity.
Environmental issues are very pertinent in China, which produces most of its electricity by burning coal, making it the world’s biggest greenhouse gas emitter.
