The Malawi Tourism Council (MTC) has formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance the visibility of Malawi’s tourism offerings through sustainable tourism practices.

The African Tourism Board has entered into a partnership agreement with Malawi to enhance tourism development and promotion through a marketing initiative focused on capacity building programs, as well as fostering collaboration and networking among key stakeholders both within Africa and beyond, aimed at advancing the growth of Malawian tourism.

The Malawi Tourism Council (MTC) has formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance the visibility of Malawi’s tourism offerings through sustainable tourism practices.

The MOU was signed on the evening of Monday, January 21, 2024, at the Amaryllis Hotel in Blantyre, with several ambassadors from the African Tourism Board participating via a Zoom connection from Johannesburg, South Africa.

This occasion marks the beginning of a strengthened partnership aimed at fostering development and sustainable tourism growth between Malawi and the wider African tourism community.

Mr. Cuthbert Ncube, Executive Chairman of the African Tourism Board, stated that the signing of the MOU represents a significant milestone for the advancement of tourism in Malawi, leveraging its diverse and rich cultural heritage.

He emphasized that Malawi boasts a vibrant culture and hospitable people who are eager to welcome visitors to the nation.

The ATB Executive Chairman emphasized the importance of showcasing our distinctive heritage, stating, “Africa is an ideal destination. This Memorandum of Understanding will facilitate the advancement of tourism through collaborative efforts for significant development.”

Memory Momba Kamthunzi, Executive Director of the Malawi Tourism Council (MTC), noted that this partnership will enhance joint marketing strategies.

She further explained that the MoU between the ATB and the Malawi Tourism Council represents a fortified alliance focused on fostering sustainable tourism growth and collaboration between Malawi and the wider African tourism sector.

Ramy Waheed, the Global Ambassador of the African Tourism Board, remarked that the MoU will assist in establishing Malawi as a premier travel destination, generate employment opportunities, and contribute to the economic development of the country.

Known as the ‘Warm Heart of Africa’, Malawi boasts a variety of tourist attractions, including its wildlife, rich cultural heritage, adventure opportunities, stunning landscapes, and Lake Nyasa, which is the third largest lake in Africa.

Malawi is particularly recognized for its year-round appeal, featuring mountain vistas and the beaches of Lake Nyasa, which attract local, regional, and international visitors.
