“As we seek to drive more business tourism and increase the economic impact of such events, it is a real coup to be welcoming world leaders to this part of the country.

“As we seek to drive more business tourism and increase the economic impact of such events, it is a real coup to be welcoming world leaders to this part of the country. We have been doing all we can to ensure the region of Southeast Wales benefits from the event. It is a great opportunity to showcase what the region offers to a global audience and will be working hard with our partners in the run-up to the summit,” said Lynne Richards, Tourism Officer at Newport City Council, commenting on the upcoming NATO Summit.

The NATO Summit is being held at the Celtic Manor Resort on September 4 and 5, and it will have significant economic impact benefits to business tourism in the South East Wales region. Held over two days in September, the main event will attract more than 7,500 delegates from around the world, including more than 60 world leaders and more than 1,500 media. As well as the main summit venue at the Celtic Manor Resort, there are a number of other formal and informal summit related events taking place across the South Wales area. This will secure millions of pounds for the local economy, not just from delegate spend but also the contracts and supply service needed in the area.

Meet South East Wales encompasses the local authorities of Newport, Monmouthshire and Torfaen that have joined together to generate additional business tourism spend within the region supported by a grant from the regional tourism partnership Capital Region Tourism.

This year marks the 65th anniversary of NATO. The summit was last held in the UK in 1990.
