The Hawaii Tourism Authority just circulated a final tropical storm bulletin to tourists visiting the Aloha State of Hawaii. According to this, tropical storm and former hurricane Iselle is no longer considered a threat to tourists and residents. Hurricane Julio has been moving away from Hawaii and should no longer be expected a second threat for Hawaii.

Hawaii Governor Abercrombie had taken the lead during the storm scare and during the two day crisis was seen constantly at the State emergency operation center on Oahu. All TV news channels aired his hands on approach on the crisis. Governor Abercrombie is up for re-election on Saturday. His campaign ads were also shown repeatedly on Hawaii news channels for the last two days. Mike McCartney, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) was often seen standing right behind the Governor.

McCartney this afternoon stated on the bulletin released to media and tourists: “Tropical Storm Iselle is continuing south of the Hawaiian Islands and is weakening, while, Hurricane Julio is moving north of the Hawaiian Islands.

No significant damage has been reported on any of the Hawaiian Islands, though there have been reports of downed power lines, trees and power outages.

The City and County of Honolulu has been given the all clear. Bus services will resume at 3 p.m. for the City and County of Honolulu and the County of Maui.

Visitors should continue to exercise caution and note that many attractions and retail outlets are closed.

Hawaii Visitors should contact their airline carriers directly to confirm their flights and make any changes to existing reservations prior to leaving for the airport.

This will be the final update from the HTA regarding the tropical storm, pending further developments.”
