Travel and tourism to the Grand Canyon State of Arizona is big business. Visitors to Phoenix had been in for a special attraction treat today. At 2:00 pm, the National Weather Service issued a blowing dust advisory until 9:00 pm for the Maricopa and northwest Pinal counties in Arizona, USA.

Nancy Harrison tweeted: Mother Nature is in control! Not us. Stay home. Don’t drive in this dust storm.

Approximately 30 minutes later, storm cells were brewing both southeast of Phoenix near Tucson and north of Phoenix, near Flagstaff.

Tweets from the Sky Harbor Airport International in Phoenix say: Dust storm closing in on Sky Harbor. The airport is shut down. Wall of dust moves into Phoenix area.

At 3:52 p.m., storms were in full force along the Interstate 8 corridor.
