Chinese authorities will allow residents of 10 more cities to visit Taiwan as independent travelers beginning Aug.

Chinese authorities will allow residents of 10 more cities to visit Taiwan as independent travelers beginning Aug. 18, bringing the number of such cities to 36, Chinese and Taiwanese tourism officials announced Friday.

The total number of independent Chinese travelers, i.e. visitors who do not come in tour groups, to Taiwan will remain capped at 4,000 per day. Another 5,000 Chinese tourists are allowed to come to Taiwan in groups each day.
