HONOLULU, Hawaii – Has outsourcing also come to the US airline industry? Who will be servicing and maintaining the aircraft you next fly on?

In March, United Airlines told employees in Hawaii that it was considering the possibility of outsourcing jobs at airports in Lihue, Kauai; Kahului, Maui; and Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii.

According to US Sen. Brian Schatz, United came to an agreement with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union, and the airline has agreed to keep about 220 jobs at these airports.

The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union is an AFL-CIO/CLC trade union representing hundreds of thousands of workers in more than 200 industries.
