The brand new international terminal just opened in 2012. International airlines including Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, Aeroflot – all had daily scheduled service to this important industrial city.
This is Donetsk International airport located in the Russian speaking East of the Ukraine.

On 26 May 2014, Pro-Russian rebels stormed and took control of the airport soon after the new president Petro Poroshenko won the 2014 Ukrainian presidential election.

Ukrainian troops launched air attacks to regain control of the airport from the rebels. 2 civilians and 38 combatants have been reported dead, and the Ukrainian military regained control of the airport.
Service at the airport has not resumed since the battle. The terminal building has been severely damaged during the fights.
