A signing Ceremony for the project agreement on the Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) project for Brunei Darussalam was held on Saturday at the Setia Pahlawan Hall, Ministry of Industry Primary Resources between the Tourism Development Department, Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources with DIW Econ (Aphec Independent Economics Consulting).
Signing on behalf of the Tourism Development Department was represented by Dayang Mariani Hj Sabtu, Acting Director of Tourism Development and the DIW Econ was represented Dr. Ferdinand Pavel, Director, Aphec Independent Economics Consulting. The signing ceremony was witnessed by the Honourable Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Minister of Industry and Primary Resources.

The project signing ceremony for the Tourism Satellite Account is one of the projects under the 10th National Development Plan. This project will be implemented over the period of 14 months, of which are intended to identify the impacts of the travel and tourism sector of the nationโ€™s economy, as well review and then identify the relevant policies to be considered.

The objectives for this project are:
1) To evaluate the contribution of tourism to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and overall economic development of the country;
2) Developing and conducting relevant studies to obtain accurate data on investment, tourism, travel expenses (tourist receipts), tourism income and employment generated tourism sector as a contributor to socio-economic development of the country; and
3) Identify and assist in making decisions on the future direction and development of tourism products
