AUCKLAND, New Zealand – Jetstar Airways is marking the fifth anniversary of the launch of domestic flights in New Zealand.
Jetstar’s first domestic flight took off from Auckland to Wellington on June 10, 2009 and since then more than seven million customers have used the service.
The airline has since clocked up over 45,000 flights across its five domestic destinations of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown and more than one million domestic seats sold for under $50.
The fifth domestic birthday comes at a time when the airline is flying high for on-time performance and customer satisfaction, Grant Kerr, head of Jetstar New Zealand, said.
He says the airline’s low fares have stimulated domestic travel significantly in New Zealand and they are “very committed to staying in the market”.
Auckland Airport has congratulated the airline, saying more than five million Jetstar passengers flew in and out of Auckland.
“Auckland is Jetstar’s busiest domestic airport with nearly 200 Jetstar flights a week to and from Auckland Airport,” Auckland Airport spokesperson Charles Spillane says.
“As a key domestic carrier, with services from Auckland Airport to Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown, Jetstar’s commitment to keeping fares affordable has proved very popular in New Zealand,” he says.
