Hermosa Beach is known as one of the most popular beaches in Southern California.

Hermosa Beach is known as one of the most popular beaches in Southern California. Surfers, beach-lovers, tourists, and residents can be found strolling down the pier or enjoying the beach on any given day. Except today.

Following hints from Twitter handle @HiddenCash, people flocked to Hermosa Beach on what has been described as an โ€œepic scavenger hunt.โ€ The anonymous millionaire posted hints on his Twitter page saying, โ€œstuffed bills into 36 Angry Bird figurines between the pier and the volleyball nets.โ€

The exact location was released in a tweet around 11:40 a.m. Saturday. โ€œIn true L.A. fashion, traffic had apparently delayed his plans but he said he still managed to bury all the figurines, undetected, near the Hermosa Beach pier,โ€ CBSLA.com reported.

The yet to be identified โ€œhidden cash manโ€ started giving away money in San Francisco. He then moved to the Southland Thursday, โ€œvexing police while exciting the public.โ€

Local reports said the man behind the hidden cash phenomena told KNX 1070 โ€œhe shares concerns about public safety, but police are nonetheless worried that some people might go overboard and endanger themselves and others while making a dash for the cash.โ€

The Los Angeles Police Department is reportedly monitoring social media to keep a handle on potential problems and where they might arise. LAPD Officer Drake Madison told CBSLA, โ€œAll of our divisions are aware of the potential that a mass influx of people can raise safety issues.โ€ Those potential problems include โ€œpeople walking in the street, running into traffic or driving too fast as they rush to be first at a cash drop.โ€

Hidden cash hunters are being urged by the LAPD to take safety precautions, obey traffic laws and to not fight over cash.
