MOSCOW, Russia – Pakistan is attending a three-day conference on international security in Moscow, Russia, that started today, Friday, May 23.

MOSCOW, Russia – Pakistan is attending a three-day conference on international security in Moscow, Russia, that started today, Friday, May 23. Defense Minister of Pakistan, Khawaja Asif, is representing Pakistan by special invitation from his Russian counterpart, Sergei Shoigu. Over 300 representatives from, 40 countries, as well as regional and international organizations are attending the conference. The Third International Security Conference is scheduled to wrap up on May 24.

The Russian Defense Minister will to hold meetings with Defense Ministers from Iran, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Serbia, and Armenia.

The Moscow International Security Conference is being held with the aim of discussing international security problems, and ways of settling regional crises with emphasis on military-political analysis.

According to the Foreign Office of Pakistan, the Nawaz government is giving special attention to its relations in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and Pakistan strongly believes in the policy of non-interference and peaceful coexistence with neighboring countries.

During the first day of the conference Kh. Asif said: โ€œWe have rendered numerous sacrifices for the cause of peace and are committed to do so in the future as well.โ€

The minister also underlined the importance of closer cooperation between Pakistan and Russia for stability in the region. โ€œPakistan is playing its due role to stabilize the region,โ€ he said.

The withdrawal of international coalition forces from Afghanistan as well as military measures that could prevent a scenario of turning the country into a terrorist training range are among the key issues at the forum.

Military experts will also discuss the aggravation of the situation in the Middle East and North Africa.

According to confirmations received so far, the conference will bring together representatives at the level of the Defense Ministry, and officials of the UN, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Collective Security Treaty Organization, and the Arab League.
