YARDLEY, Pennsylvania โ€“ Global Traveler hosted its first-ever Leisure Travel Awards event in honor of the second-annual Leisure Travel Awards last week. The reception was held at Hotel Shangri-La in Santa Monica, Calif.

More than 100 guests gathered to congratulate the respected winners on their achievements. The event was held in the Penthouse Suite and on the rooftop of the iconic Hotel Shangri-La, opened in the 1930s and known for its Streamline Moderne architectural style. Guests mingled and enjoyed food and drink inspired by the winning leisure destinations. With stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, the venue was perfect for celebrating the very best in leisure travel, as voted by the readers of Global Traveler, a group of travelers taking up to six leisure trips per year.

As the sun set over the water, Francis X. Gallagher, publisher and CEO, Global Traveler, awarded the 2014 Leisure Travel Award winners. Winning companies represented at the event included Silverseas Cruises; Taj Hotels, Resorts & Palaces; Italian Government Tourist Board; Hilton Hotels & Resorts; Viking River Cruises; The St. Regis Bora Bora; Hong Kong Tourism Board; ProMexico; Delta Air Lines; Abercrombie & Kent; Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts; InterContinental Resort Bora Bora & Thalasso Spa; Peninsula Hotels; Hyatt Hotels & Resorts; Marriott; and British Virgin Islands.

โ€œWe launched our Leisure Travel Awards in 2013, after noticing our readers, frequent business travelers, also took a large number of leisure trips per year,โ€ said Francis X. Gallagher, publisher and CEO, Global Traveler. โ€œThis is a group of people who know travel, so it only made sense for them to name the best of the best in leisure travel. Congratulations to the winners, a very elite bunch indeed. We are so glad we could partner with Hotel Shangri-La to host an event befitting the accomplishments of these companies.โ€
