Police were called to the Bass Highway west of Port Latta, where a Hyundai delivery van collided with a Volkswagen hatchback on Thursday morning.

Two Chinese nationals in the hatchback, the 30-year old male driver and his 32-year-old wife, had been touring Tasmania when the smash occurred.

Both were seriously injured and taken to the North West Regional Hospital.
