Ms Kandie, who is also in charge of the Trade and East African community docket, said the discovery of the shocking cache of terror arsenal in a car in Mombasa on Monday should not scare tourists from visiting the county.

Speaking to journalists at Sun-n-Sand beach hotel in Kilifi County after she officially opened the fifth inter-university council for East Africa conference, Kandie said the Kenyan security agencies were alert to ensure there was safety for both foreigners and Kenyans.

She said her ministry and that of internal security were working together to ensure suspected terrorists are arrested and prosecuted in courts of law.

โ€œThe Kenyan security organs are alert to trail and detect any terror suspects who could be in the country for their arrest and prosecution,โ€ said Kandie.

Do not be scared

The Cabinet Secretary said Kenya depends so much on tourism for foreign currency and said the State will not sit back and see the security of the nation being compromised by suspected terrorists.

She said tourists and other players in the tourism sector are free to travel to all parts of the Kenyan coast and enjoy their holidays.

โ€œTourists and other players in the tourism business sector need not get scared in any way following the discovery of the bombs stacked in a car in Mombasa last Monday as the top security organs of this nation are alert and are following up the matter,โ€ said Kandie.

Good luck

The CS, however, said security should not be left to the Government alone but be an issue which all Kenyans have to take part in and report to the relevant organs suspicious characters.

She said porous borders of the country with neighbouring counties like Somalia was to blame for the suspected terrorists who sneak in the country and plan their illegal missions.

Kandie urged officials from the Kenya Navy to intensify their patrols along the coastal ocean line.
