SEATTLE (TVLW) – Horizon Air, Alaska Airlines’ sister carrier, today announced it will offer weekly nonstop jet service from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to the popular tourist destination of Loreto, Mexico, starting Jan. 19. The new flights are Horizon’s first to serve Mexico and will supplement Alaska Airlines’ LAX-Loreto service.
“With this added service by Horizon to Loreto, more customers will be able to enjoy the warmth and uniqueness of this charming Mexico resort,” said Dan Russo, Horizon’s director of marketing and communications.
The new Horizon flights will operate on Saturdays, departing LAX at 11:10 a.m. Pacific time and arriving in Loreto at 2:14 p.m. Central time. Return flights will depart Loreto at 3 p.m. Central time and arrive in Los Angeles at 3:59 p.m. Pacific time. Horizon will use a 70-seat Bombardier CRJ-700 regional jet on the route.
Alaska Airlines will continue to offer four weekly LAX-Loreto flights on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Alaska operates the route with Boeing 737-400 aircraft, with 12 seats in first class and 128 in the main cabin.
Founded in 1697 by Jesuit missionaries, Loreto is located on the eastern shore of Baja on the Sea of Cortez. A town of 10,000, the popular tourist destination is known for its sport fishing, beaches and historical sites. Alaska Airlines introduced service to Mexico in 1988 and now transports more than 1 million passengers annually between the U.S. West Coast and Mexico. The airline operates up to 44 flights daily serving 10 Mexican destinations: Cancun, Guadalajara, Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, La Paz, Loreto, Los Cabos, Manzanillo, Mazatlan, Mexico City and Puerto Vallarta.
