LONDON, England – A tourist and her aunt on a shopping holiday to Britain stole from a Harvey Nichols store at the Boxing Day sales, a court heard .

Melody Chong Win, 25 – who earns £72,000 a year at home in Singapore – and Ling Foe, 65, took two purses worth £215 from the flagship Central London store.

Their lawyer said they recognised they had been “unfortunate and stupid”.

Prosecutor Doreen Bogle said: “On the 26th December the defendants were seen to enter Harvey Nichols.

“Ling Foe and Melody Win were observed by security to steal a number of items, two purses to the value of £215.

“They left the store making no attempt to pay and the security tags were found to be torn off the purses, but the items were recovered.”

Both admitted theft and were fined £105 by Westminster magistrates. Win received a caution in 2009 for a similar offence.
