Dumping prices in the travel and tourism market in Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijan Tourism Association (AzTa) has reported of a substantial growth of price dumping in the countries tourism market.

The Azerbaijan Tourism Association (AzTa) has reported of a substantial growth of price dumping in the countries tourism market.

“The situation with prices too low to sustain has become impossible and unregulated as the market newcomers draw customers precisely in such a way that eventually affects not only the image of tourism companies, but also the domestic tourism market as a whole. Companies that have been operating e in the market for 10 and even 20 years, cannot earn even 5-10% of the price of tours sold as they are simply forced to sell at dumping prices,” Bagirov said.

He emphasized that facebook or rather cheap advertising, to which potential tourists react actively, has become the best tool for such companies.

“Using a page on facebook, such companies, damaging the image of the countryโ€™s tourist market, seriously violate the rights of other companies, as well as business rules. Due to the fact that the country has formed a market economy, and the regulator has no authority to interfere in this process, one should rely on the conscience of entrepreneurs,” Bagirov said.

AzTa head added that the opposite situation had formed in the hospitality industry, where with the growing number of hotels, the hotels have begun to reduce the prices of services and improve the quality of service to attract tourists.
