Elite Green Globe member in Germany closes with best business year

LOS ANGELES, California – “This was the best business year for Leipziger Messe since the German reunification,” said Managing Director, Martin Buhl-Wagner.

LOS ANGELES, California – “This was the best business year for Leipziger Messe since the German reunification,” said Managing Director, Martin Buhl-Wagner. “We would like to thank our clients, partners and employees.” We had a total of 1.2 million guests visiting the 37 trade fairs, 97 conventions and 34 events, covering the fields of business, politics, sport and entertainment. The business of the five subsidiaries showed a very positive development as well.”

Green Globe Elite Member, the Leipziger Messe GmbH, the Congress Center Leipzig (CCL) and its five subsidiaries closed the 2013 event year with record sales, estimated at over 85 million euros. The record result for the Leipziger Messe corporate group can be explained on the basis of five points:

“First, we had a strong industry and trade fair year with highlights such as the supplier and machinery construction trade fairs, Z and Intec, as well as successful fairs open to the public, such as the Leipzig Book Fair, HAUS-GARTEN-FREIZEIT (Home-Garden-Leisure), and Model-Hobby-Spiel (models-hobbies-games). In addition, we continued developing our portfolio by introducing new products, such as HIVOLTEC, the Designer’s Open and Cosmetic Business,” explained Markus Geisenberger, Managing Director at Leipziger Messe.

“Second, our Congress Center Leipzig (CCL) was almost completely booked out,” Buhl-Wagner noted. “There is a very broad spectrum of conventions taking place at the CCL, ranging from high-caliber international medical conferences, such as the Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS) Congress with 2,000 international microbiologists, including Prof. Dr. Harald zu Hausen, Nobel prize-winner for Medicine, to one of the few global meetings of Ministers in Germany, and the International Transport Forum (ITF), to trade fair side events, such as the Antiquarian Book Fair, taking place during the Book Fair.”

“Third,” Geisenberger added “We become more active on an international level. This ranges from the organization of joint participation at foreign trade fairs, to collaboration with local partners, to our own trade fairs. In 2013, these included a new trade fair targeting the prevention of forest fires, ‘Forest Fire Fighting and Protection Siberia’ in Novosibirsk, the second run of Monument Moscow, and the ISPO World Congress in Hyderabad, India.”

“Fourth, powerful guest events, such as the large-scale World Skills Leipzig 2013, the annual general meeting of Porsche Automotive Holding SG, the SPD (German Democratic Party) convention, and the agricultural fair Agra – all made a major contribution to our commercial success,” Buhl-Wagner stated. “In the future, we will be making a greater effort to attract guest event organizers with our new, highly flexible grandstand technology that we are using in our HALLE: EINS, for example. The new grandstand allows us to respond faster and more flexible to those requests.”

“Fifth, customers like to use all of the services we provide as an integrated trade fair organizer. Our flexible grandstand at HALLE: EINS offers the network’s extensive service spectrum, which benefits us in commercial terms. Our subsidiaries’ business indicates a very positive development,” Buhl-Wagner added.

“The multi-pillar concept we are using as our strategic basis is bearing fruit,” concluded Buhl-Wagner. “Our exhibitors, visitors and customers are also increasingly expecting us to practice sustainability, which is why the corporate group is once again undergoing Green Globe certification.”
