LONDON, Jan 11 (Reuters) – Emirates airline is not planning to buy a stake in rival British Airways, a spokeswoman said on Friday, denying perennial rumours that this time pushed BA shares as much as 6 percent higher.

“Emirates has no interest in taking a stake in BA and is concentrating on organic growth,” said a spokeswoman in London.

BA shares were up 4.4 percent at 279.75 pence at 1145 GMT, making it the second-biggest climber on the FTSE share index.

About 11.7 million shares changed hands during the first two hours of trading, equalling the average volume for a full day’s trade in the last 30 days.

Emirates was forced to deny rumours it was planning to buy into British Airways last February and again in March and around four times before that.

Other airlines it has denied being interested in buying include Germany’s Lufthansa and Italy’s Alitalia.
