Starwood Resorts & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.

Starwood Resorts & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: HOT) and Plenitude Berhad today announced the opening of Four Points by Sheraton Penang on the tropical paradise of Penang, one of Malaysia’s top island destinations. The opening follows the completion of extensive renovations and the rebranding of the 220-room property located along the Tanjung Bungah beachfront.

“Four Points by Sheraton Penang offers travelers a fresh, new option on this scenic island, which is a popular choice for meetings and conventions, as well as leisure,” said Chuck Abbott, Regional Vice President, Southeast Asia, Starwood Hotels & Resorts. “This is the fourth Four Points to open in Malaysia as we continue to aggressively grow the brand across Asia Pacific.”

Four Points first launched in Malaysia in 2009 and already boasts Starwood’s largest footprint in the country with four properties in Kuching, Langkawi, Sandakan and now, Penang. Starwood currently operates 11 hotels in Malaysia, with three more in the pipeline, under six of its brands: Sheraton, Westin, Le Meridien, The Luxury Collection, Aloft and Four Points by Sheraton.

“Malaysia is one of the most dynamic destinations for business and leisure travel and we are pleased to partner with Starwood to unveil the Four Points by Sheraton Penang,” said Madam Elsie Chua, Executive Chairman, Plenitude Berhad. “We look forward to a long and successful working relationship with Starwood and Plenitude itself will continue to identify growth opportunities in Malaysia’s hospitality industry and landscape.”

Known as the “Pearl of the Orient,” Penang draws visitors with its flavorful cuisine, multi-faceted culture and rich history.
