The city of West Hollywood (WeHo), in California, packs nearly 500,000 people take to the streets of Santa Monica Boulevard every year on October 31, making it the world’s largest Halloween party. Billed as the “West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval,” the festive street party began in 1987, three years after WeHo officially became a city within the county of Los Angeles.

The event draws several hundreds of thousands of people to WeHo because it has become an annual showcase of some of the wildest costume creations ever. The theme for the 2013 Halloween Carnaval is One Noir Night in West Hollywood and it will feature 6 stages and 50 performers, according to visitwesthollywood.com.

According to the website, which is the official travel guide to WeHo, “the Carnaval is obviously the main event and draw, but several of the hotels, bars and lounges in West Hollywood hold events the weekend and days leading up to the official holiday.”

Admission is free and the event starts at 6:00 pm and runs until 11:00 pm.
