Seychelles and China confirm new cooperation agreement in tourism and culture

China has agreed to work with Seychelles to expand the distribution and sales of Seychelles tourism and the Department of Culture books.

China has agreed to work with Seychelles to expand the distribution and sales of Seychelles tourism and the Department of Culture books. Through an agreement signed recently, the State Administration of Press Publication Radio Film and Television of the Peopleโ€™s Republic of China is now authorized to distribute and sell two of Seychellesโ€™ tourism and cultural books in China. The agreement also makes provision for China to introduce a collection of contemporary books to as wide of an audience as possible in Seychelles. Contemporary books of Chinese politics history and literature, among many others, will soon reach the shelves of the Seychelles National Library for local readers. The agreement was concluded on behalf of Seychelles by Benjamine Rose, the Principal Secretary of Culture, and Wu Shulin, the Vice Minister of General Administration of Press Publication Radio Film and Television of Peopleโ€™s Republic of China.

Benjamine Rose said that the signing of the agreement lays a more consolidated basis for cooperation between Seychelles and China and that this move will help to achieve a more fruitful result in the field of distribution of each other’s publications. She added that the agreement is a big boost for the Seychelles-China press and publishing industry in their endeavor to promote each country’s respective works.

โ€œMore and more Seychellois readers today are starting to like Chinese literature with the hope to know more about China. The Chinese readers also have discovered, through recent publications, the Seychelles beauty and its culture. With the Chinese publishing industry going global, and with constantly raising their status in international circles of publication, the visibility for Seychelles will increase. The Chinese influence as a nation should also make our readers more fond of Chinese literature, their history, politics, and their culture,โ€ Ms. Benjamine Rose said.

Mr. Wu Shulin said that a people-to-people relation can only be bridged with adequate information on each otherโ€™s culture: โ€œChina has 1.3 billion readers. Not even half of them have read about Seychelles. The relationship between the two nations can only grow if we know about each otherโ€™s culture. The Chinese contemporary books donated to Seychelles, and the Seychelles cultural and historical books on sale in China, will contribute to the growth of our people-to-people relationship.โ€
