BAKU, Azerbaijan – Earnings in the tourism sector of Azerbaijan amounted to AZN 79.425 million in the first half of 2013.

During the conference devoted to the World Tourism Day the head of the tourism office of the Ministry of Culture & Tourism of Azerbaijan, Aydin Ismiyev, stated that domestic tourist sites’ capacities of simultaneous accommodation reached 32,736 places.

“Over Jan-Jun the country was visited by 1,196,953 foreign citizens that is by 107,130 people or 9.9% more than for the same period of 2012,” Ismiyev said.

He pointed out that for this period alone the country numbered 510 hotels, the number of places in which reached 15,576 “beds” and the quantity of employees – 7,668 people.

He added that during this period the Ministry was applied for licenses in e-form by 45 travel companies (31 companies have already received licenses) and 50 hotels (35).

“In the course of the seasonal monitoring in the regional hotels of the country it was found out that the prices in them remained at the level of last year, while in 2012 the hotel prices were lowered. Also, as a result of insufficient advertising activity the level of hotel filling declined,” Ismiyev said.
