JATA Tourism EXPO opens not short of celebrities in Tokyo

Not short of tourism celebrities, the JATA Tourism EXPO Japan officially opened today with 140 countries and 47 regions in Japan represented.

Well-known tourism representatives were lined up to welcome delegates, including Japan’s Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Akihiro Ohta, and the Commissioner of the Japan Tourism Agency, Norifumi Idee.

Mr. Ohta officially welcomed everyone, explaining that Japan wants to become an advanced tourism country, to push not only international inbound travel, but to also focus on more domestic travel as well.

Also spotted were tourism celebrities Dr. Taleb Rifai, Secretary-General, UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), and Mr. David Scowsill, President and CEO, World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC).

Although a global and international event, most material was exclusively in Japanese, which made it more than a bit challenging for those that did not read or speak the language. Perhaps the organizers can provide translations and/or interpreters for the remaining portion of this 3-day event.
