LIMA, Peru – An earthquake of 6.0 magnitude has hit northern Peru, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

The epicenter of the quake was situated 48 kilometers from the city of Moyobamba and 57 kilometers from the city of Rioja at a depth of 114 kilometers, the USGS said.


Moyobamba is home to some 90,000 people, while Rioja has some 23,000 residents.
