Srong earthquake strikes Oklahoma, felt across the US heartland

PAWNEE, OK- Strong 5.6 magnitude earthquake rocked Pawnee, Oklahoma on Saturday morning. The earthquake was felt in at least seven states across the US heartland – Texas, Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri, the US Geological Survey said.

The officials with the Pawnee County Emergency Management say buildings there suffered significant damage as the result of an earthquake Saturday.


It is tied with a 2011 earthquake for the strongest in Oklahoma history. Multiple aftershocks followed.

Though emergency officials at first said a building collapsed, but later said the damage did not result in a full collapse. Other structural damage was also reported.

The emergency management is going to assist in Pawnee after the earthquake, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin said.
