Earthquake update from Myanmar by Destination Asia


Destination Asia, a major Thailand-based tour operator, updated eTN about the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck central Myanmar on Wednesday at 5:04 pm with the epicenter near Chauk, a small town 125 km from Bagan. All Destination Asia clients as well as its team and families are safe.

The Archaeology Department in Bagan reported that among the more than 2,200 pagodas in Bagan, a total of 185 pagodas were damaged by the earthquake, Sulamani being one of the most affected.

To date there is no reports about any major damage in building infrastructure but the assessment of the situation is still being carried out. As a safety precaution, it is not possible to climb on the famous sunset temples until further notice.
