The Hamptons listed as most expensive destination in New York state

NEW YORK, NY – The city of Rochester, located on the southern shore of Lake Ontario, is one of the most affordable summer destinations in the state of New York.

NEW YORK, NY – The city of Rochester, located on the southern shore of Lake Ontario, is one of the most affordable summer destinations in the state of New York. That’s according to the latest survey conducted by NewYorkHotels.org.

The survey specifically compared 20 popular New York destinations based on their cost of lodging. The months of July and August served as the comparative timeframe. In particular, the average rate for the cheapest available double room (rated at least 3 stars) was established for each destination.


At an average overnight rate of $122 for its most affordable room, Rochester ranks almost at the very bottom of the survey. Only Plattsburgh, located in the North Country region of New York is less expensive. At $117 per night, it is averaging a bit cheaper.

On the other side of the spectrum, East Hampton is the state’s priciest destination at an average of $324 nightly for its most affordable double room. Southampton, which collectively forms the Hamptons with East Hampton, and neighboring Shelter Island complete the podium at average overnight rates of $289 and $308, respectively.

The following table shows the five most and the five least expensive destinations in the state of New York this summer. The rates indicated reflect the average rate for the cheapest available double room (rated at least 3 stars) for the time period spanning July 1 to August 31, 2016.
