New York City steps up airport security in the wake of Istanbul attack

NEW YORK, NY – The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is increasing security at NYC area airports in the wake of a deadly terrorist attack at Istanbul Ataturk Airport in Turkey.

“High visibility patrols equipped with tactical weapons and equipment” were added at John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty Airport, the Port Authority said in a statement.

“The agency continues to monitor the situation in Turkey and is collaborating with federal, state and local law enforcement partners to include the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.”

The security was also stepped up at the Turkish Embassy on the East Side of Manhattan.
