Travel agents are protesting in Delhi

The Jantar Mantar observatory complex in the heart of New Delhi is often the venue for protests on political and other issues. On Saturday, hundreds of travel industry gathered here to protest against what they called unethical practices by offline travel agents.

Protesting travel agents alleged that offline agents were hitting hard and selling tickets below costs. Venture capitalists were involved. Protesting agents said this is killing the tourism industry.

Protesters said hotel rooms should not be sold at below cost rate, as this would eliminate local players.

Protesters were backed by Subhash Goyal, who was until recently President of the Indian Association of Tour Operators.
