An earthquake strikes southern Greece, jolts “felt” in Athens.

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake hit southern Greece some 125 km north of Athens Wednesday. Witnesses said tremors were felt in the capital.

The quake was registered at the depth of 15.6 km, the US Geological Survey reported.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, Greek officials told Reuters.

Greece is occasionally rattled by earthquakes, but they are usually not very powerful. In 1999, a 5.9 magnitude quake killed 143 people.
