As Tourism Australia today announced Daryl Hudson as the new manager of its Canada office based in Toronto, tourism figures just in, show Canada arrivals to Australia are up by 13% compared to 2007/08.

Daryl is well-known in the industry with more than 20 years experience in tourism including 10 specializing in destination marketing. Darylโ€™s current role as managing director, Great Southern, Inc. sees him managing clients such as Tourism Tasmania and Orion Expedition Cruises.

Before a four-year position as International sales manager for Sydney Convention & Visitors Bureau, Daryl actually began his tourism career in Tourism Australiaโ€™s USA region with positions in Chicago and Los Angeles.

Michelle Gysberts, vice president, Americas, Tourism Australia who heads up both the Los Angeles and the Canada offices said she could not be more delighted with the appointment and with the performance of the Canadian market.

โ€œDaryl will not only bring his many years of knowledge and experience to Tourism Australia, but also his infectious energy and drive, which has made him such a well-known and well-liked colleague to the industry.

โ€œThe inbound Canada market to Australia has been on the steady increase for the last four years. The increase can be attributed to a range of factors including aviation capacity and a booming Canadian economy. We are in a good position for Daryl to take over the reigns and continue to build on the successes of the region,โ€ continued Gysberts.

Daryl will commence in the middle of August and will report to Michelle Gysberts.
