The ministers of Tourism of Brazil and Cuba, Castao Dias and Manuel Marrero, signed on Tuesday in Brasilia a memorandum of understanding aimed at exploring ways to increase the number of tourists between the two countries. The ministers also discussed joint tourism investment opportunities.

After the signing of the document at the Kubitschek Plaza Hotel, the Cuban ministers underlined possibilities to expand the trips of Brazilian citizens to the Caribbean nation, by resuming direct flights between Havana and Sao Paulo by way of Cubana Airlines, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.

On Wednesday, Marrero participated in the inauguration of the office of the International Group of Tour Operators and Travel Agencies, Havanatur, in Sao Paulo, and said that the expect to have another facility of this kind in Rio de Janeiro shortly.

Among novelties, he announced that the Brazilian Associations of Tour Operators (Braztoa) and of Travel Agencies (ABAV) agreed to hold their respective congresses in Havana, which will be a great opportunity to get acquainted with the varied Cuban offer.

Traveling along with Marrero are Deputy Tourism Minister Xiomara Martinez and the top representatives of the hotel chains Gran Caribe, Cubanacan and Gaviota, who offered details on Cuba as a tourist destination to tour operators entrepreneurs and travel agents of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre.

Before returning to Sao Paulo, the Cuban minister met with Flavio Dino, president of the Brazilian Tourism Institute, who is in charge of the implementation of the national policy of that sector in terms of promotion, marketing and support.
