Tourism Malaysia welcomes the announcement by Malaysia Airlines that it will increase the number of flights between Kuala Lumpur and Auckland from six to seven per week between 24 November and 27 January.
New Zealand Director for Tourism Malaysia, Zalina Ahmad, says the announcement, which will see 10 more return flights during this time, is great news and will mean more choice for New Zealanders visiting Malaysia.
“This is an excellent time to visit Malaysia,” she says. “In the western regions this is the driest and sunniest season – Kuala Lumpur, our highlands and tea plantations, and the historical city of Melaka, as well as the many island and beach resorts. Added to this, visitors can enjoy a number of colourful festivals and events in the start-up to our special Visit Malaysia Year 2014.”
Ms Ahmad says visiting Malaysia in December-January also means being able to shop…and shop – all at bargain prices!
“There are extraordinary values to be had in our year end sale season in shopping malls, factory outlets and markets, including vibrant night markets,” she says. “From international designer brands to handcrafts, shoppers can expect rock-bottom prices, as well as an interesting line-up of fashion-related events and entertainment.”
Other events in Malaysia around this time include a couple of international yachting regattas – one hosted by the Royal Selangor Yacht Club – an endurance run along the Malaysia-Thailand border, an international surfing competition at Cherating and a dance carnival showcasing Malaysia’s cultures and traditions.
