Skål International through their President, Mr Mok Singh, wishes to express their deep concern over the totally barbaric attack on innocent tourists in the Nanga Parbat region of Pakistan earlier this week.
“Actions such as these are totally against all human rights conventions and we totally deplore and reject any form of violence against people who are visiting another country in peace and goodwill”.
“Our sympathy goes to the families of the victims and we urge the Pakistani authorities to quickly identify and bring to justice the perpetrators of this crime”. States Mok Singh.
The Skål Intentional family would also like to give our support to our Pakistani colleagues in the travel and tourism industry, whose livelihood and those of their suppliers and families have been adversely affected by this action. Hurting an industry as important as tourism has dramatic economic consequences on the entire population. Regrettably actions such as these will inevitability see a drop in overseas visitors and a substantial loss in revenue for the local industry. The people most affected by this action are the hard working, law abiding citizens of the country.
Tourism is one of the most effective ways to spread understanding amongst different cultures and is one of the most important sources of income for many countries. It is vital that all governments and local authorities work diligently to ensure the safety of tourists to their country, and have clear and concise warnings in place to educate visitors as to regions that may carry risk to their safety. At the same time it is equally important that the tourism industry pass this information onto their clients before they travel.
