Budapest Airport launches Ryanair’s S16 expansion

BUDAPEST, Hungary – Budapest Airport’s blistering S16, which already has a line-up of 10 new routes, is underway early with the arrival of Ryanair’s inaugural flights to Malaga and Malta, on 17 and 19 March respectively. Using its 189-seat 737-800s on both routes, the ultra-low-cost carrier (ULCC) will add another 756 weekly seats to its continuously expanding services from the Hungarian capital city airport, with initial forecasts expecting Ryanair to deliver more than 1.7 million passengers to Budapest this year.

Ryanair will join Wizz Air in offering direct services to both destinations, immediately giving the Irish ULCC a 43% share of all scheduled weekly seats to Malta, as well as offering 45% of Budapest’s weekly flights to Malaga.

Commenting at the launch, Balázs Bogáts, Head of Airline Development, Budapest Airport said: “Budapest welcomes these new flights from Ryanair and is delighted to see that seat capacities will grow on both destinations providing additional options for passengers to travel between the countries at competitive prices.”
