SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Authorities say a tourist has drowned at a popular beach in northwestern Puerto Rico.
Police said that 63-year-old Anders Gunnarsson was swept away by strong currents while swimming at Isabela’s Jobos beach. The police report indicated that his son Sven discovered Gunnarsson was in trouble and tried to save him but other swimmers wound up helping bring both back to shore.
Authorities said paramedics treated Gunnarsson at the scene and then took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police identified him as Polish and said the family is spending a 10-day vacation in Puerto Rico, but they could not immediately provide further details.
