Minister: Pakistan “has no objection over holidays observed on religious festivals of minorities”

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Minority communities in Pakistan will have public holidays on Holi, Diwali and Easter festivals after the country’s parliament on Tuesday adopted a resolution to this effect.

Lawmaker Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani proposed the resolution to Pakistan’s National Assembly (parliament).

Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid told the media that the government had no objection over holidays being observed on the religious festivals of minorities.

He added that no discrimination is being meted out to the followers of different faiths and that people share their grief and happiness, regardless of their religion.
