Reunion Island Tourism launches Mega Mascarun

The Mega Mascarun 2013 edition will be held on Reunion Island from June 9 to 14, 2013.

The Mega Mascarun 2013 edition will be held on Reunion Island from June 9 to 14, 2013. This year’s eductour event and international tour operators challenge will gather 180 travel agents from priority markets for Reunion Island from France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Germany.

In 2008, Reunion Island launched the Mascarun with two events: the eductour and the international tour operators challenge. Over the years, this event has become THE meeting place for travel agents. Today, it is with a new image of the destination, the island of travel, that Reunion Island offers an even larger adventure.

The Mega 2013 Mascarun opens internationally and offers to travel agents priority markets of the island to participate in the adventure. Teams consist of 6 groups (Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, and France with 3 groups) of 24 people, and each group consists of 8 teams of 3 people. They will compete in sporting challenges enabling them to assess the way the variety of landscapes and activities make Reunion Island a unique place in the world. Participants at the event were selected during the challenges of sales and online training developed by Reunion Island Tourism.

The Mega Mascarun 2013 is organized by Reunion Island Tourism in partnership with Air France, Corsair, and Air Austral, along with Alamanda, Boucan Canot, Iloha Lux, Nautilus, and Reef, and aims for commercial promotion of the island with tour operators and travel agents who program the destination.

“Five days to enjoy the riches of the island in an explosive and friendly atmosphere! Cliches of the tropics, Reunion Island is full of ideas and activities, both at sea, and in the air, and on earth. Few destinations in the world offer as many assets concentrated with quality tourism, combining modernity and exoticism. Tour operators and travel agents are the best ambassadors of Reunion Island. This why we want to introduce them to the meeting in a completely new way, so that they in turn give their customers the desire to discover Reunion Island,” said a Reunion Island Tourism representative.

A participant from last year’s Mascarun said: “There are places like this where the simple act of setting foot gives us a great feeling of well-being, and in my case this a fantastic island. Thank you all for your hospitality, your smile, and good mood everyday!”

Reunion Island Tourism (IRT) is part of the Regional Tourism Council (CRT). Tourism, one of the major strengths of Reunion Island, is an important economic issue. To promote the assets worthy of a continent, the Regional Council has established a sustainable development plan and key solidarity objectives. Reunion Island has welcomed one million tourists, and it aims to double that number by the year 2020. To achieve this objective, the IRT has created an active and concerted tourism policy as a means of action to anticipate and respond to travelers. Reunion Island is developing a brand quality of its destination in conjunction with the “guardian” of the National Label QT (Quality Tourism), valuing the plurality of its tourism and focus on innovation, including the creation and deposit of the INPI label, “Innovation,” for the development of innovative tourism products in line with the new demands of an international clientele. Concrete illustrations include the creation of a Regional Tourism Observatory for professionals, obtaining price “Travel d’Or” for the best iPad app to discover Reunion through a 360-degree launch in 2011, and the first place trophy for the “Imagine Innovative Tourism Project Reunion 2030.”
