A plane carrying tourists has crashed during landing at a mountain strip in northern Nepal.

A plane carrying tourists has crashed during landing at a mountain strip in northern Nepal.

The plane was trying to land at Jomsom located some 200km northwest of Kathmandu today when it crashed on the banks of Kaligandaki river, Nepal police said.

Twenty-one people were on board the state-owned Nepal Airlines plane, Associated Press reports.

All on board were injured – four are in a critical condition.

Nine passengers are Japanese tourists, the three crew and other passengers are all Nepali.

The injured have been take to a local hospital, and those critical are being airlifted to nearby Pokhara town.

The area is popular with foreign trekkers visiting the Mount Annapurna area and Hindu pilgrims visiting the revered Muktinath temple.
